LONG GONE LOSER - Issue #13

"I would never normally listen to this type of stuff but I have been going through a rough patch in my life so I am looking for anything I can connect with. The darling sound of Sky’s vocals mixed with the pop sensibilities of Vlad’s music mixed together to make a relaxing session of musical sweetness. It really soothed my bad times and while it aint the rockin’ stuff you normally find in these pages, fans of Mazzy Star, Lily Holbrook and Tori Amos might dig this one. Very light and fluffy like a Milky Way. You can still like Venom and listen to this stuff, it doesn’t make you a poser, sell-out or gay… I bet Manowar listen to this when not fighting the world for metal or singing at wedding recitals. (Damo) "

Dan MacIntosh - Indie-Music.com

"The Sky Project is a five-song work built around Sky Smetanin’s beguiling voice. She wrote and produced this disc with Vlad Nestorovski. The sky darkens now and again, but these tracks cannot hide silver lining lyrics, which stand out bright and clear while framing the music's aural clouds.

Whether songs are mostly-acoustic, as with “Thank You,” or just acoustic guitar accented, as on “Love Will Find You There," Smetanin always finds room to give encouragement. “Thank You” ends with the repeated phrase, “Everything’s alright.” That track begins with just acoustic guitar and vocal, before layering vocals, adding strings and eventually inserting percussion. On “Love Will Find You,” Smetanin sings with faith, “I believe in you, one day you’ll believe in you, too.”

Smetanin sounds like various vocalists from track to track. Her singing is at its best during “Here Without You,” where she comes off a lot like Kate Bush. The music is relatively subdued, although this duo breaks out with a little electric guitar riff-ary during “Touch the Sky.”

The Other Side Of Day is an unlikely combination of unsettling sonics, which support clear and concise words of encouragement."

"Muruch - Blogspot Review"

"...the band's sound falls somewhere between Fisher and Faithless. The opening track, "Here Without You", begins with a distant hum that melts into a mix of acoustics and electronics beneath seductively hushed vocals. "Love Will Find You There" and "Lullaby For The Brave" are slightly softer, slower tracks that allow Sky's voice to soar. Sky returns to her whispery velvet tone on "Touch The Sky", a more straight forward electronic song with a touch of piano. "Thankyou" ends the EP with echoing vocals and acoustics that build into a faster electronic beat."

"A Critique From The Great Mel Torme"

"I'm an old man and you've made me bang my head against the wall with your sexy computer craziness. If you're going to rock this much insane ass could you please place a disclaimer at the beginning of your insanely jumping off jam?

Not everybody is 23 and about to change the world of music like you. With your womanly computer voodoo.

What? What's that? That guitar coming in? Ohhhh...my head, my head. The echoes cascading into each other and then the nylon string guitar?I haven't felt this way since I did that duet of "My Favorite Things" with Judy Garland at Birdland. Sort of happy all over and...dirty.

Myrtle, get over here."

"Awesome sound, great production"

"At first listen it gives me feelings of Bjork, and Massive Attack. The production is very crisp and strong. The singers voice is perfect for the song and the effects on the voice are tasteful and not over done. The song shifts enough to keep my attention and keep me engaged. A lot of the synth work is really cool and fitting. Great dynamic shift at the end, I really like that part."

"Scarey, Sexy, fuckin girl"

"This is brilliance...I have yet to feel this much emotion from a track on this site. The sequencing and vocal effects are infectious. It is very difficult to accomplish a extreme vocal effect and still have the lyrics be so crystal clear. Reznor would be impressed by this track and all of the layered loops that don't clash but enhance each part."

Matt Keil - Brighton, Michigan (Reviewing "Touch The Sky" on Garageband.com)

"Cinematic pulse vibe"

"There is a nice trancy vibe goin' on in the verse with lots of colour. Bjork and Kate Bush become lovers.....with a dab of Abba........ Lots of nice tension builders in the track with blips and blops and simple things like wispy lone piano lines."

brampton - Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Reviewing "Touch The Sky" on Garageband.com)

"evocative and mysterious..."

"There is a lot right with this song. The hook (chorus) is great, simple and melodic. Stays with you immediately. The rhythm is very interesting. Dreamy and urgent all at once. Nice!"

Sean Arington - Athens, Georgia (Reviewing "Touch The Sky" on Garageband.com)

"Oooh Do That Again in my ear"

"Ooh baby .. who is that chick-a-dee blowin' all that high end in my ear? Interesting, catchy, sexy intro .... I'll wait around for the chorus for sure. Synth and drum patterns a bit on the synth and drum pattern side, but the mix of real acoustic git and detailed vocal overdubbs make it OK. The song picks up nicely at the "Everything is alright" section, but Im not sure where we are in the structure (bridge, 2ndary chorus, ????) .. Hey but who cares where we are, because I think we're where we supposed to be in this tune."

"Amazing"

"Whispering lyrics on a fabulous beat and getting really electro is what makes this song a brilliant track. A powerful tune to bleed your ears and send your body to the dancefloor. Drums that beat without remorse, electrified guitars on the background, howling but fine lead guitars here and there, breathtaking female voice and crazy rythms to boost your energy ... ! Also cleverly produced and perfectly mixed. Amazing!"
